Vineyard information
This vineyard is located within the Heathcote region in Victoria, and is at an elevation of 340m. The majority of soil under vine is Cambrian – red and deep with excellent water retention. These calcium-rich red soils are made up of weathered "greenstone" and are prized for their water retention capabilities. While they drain freely, enough water is held in the soil to feed the vine throughout the growing season, which eliminates the need for irrigation. Small, concentrated grapes are the result, and they make rich, concentrated wines. The soils are also notable because they impart deep intrinsic characters – almost a sense of place or terroir – to the wines.
2017 growing season
2017 was an outstanding vintage for the quality of our single- vineyard grapes. A relatively cool Spring with moderate rain fall and mild summer made for an extended vintage and late harvesting. These conditions gave average yields at approximately 4-5 acres to the tonne. Full bodied and ripe, this wine is well balanced with smooth tannins and great natural acidity.
Winemaker comments
This Heathcote Shiraz is is a trademark style of Shiraz this region is so well renowned for. This single vineyard wine has lifted perfume with layers of red and black fruits. Pristine and poised with floral notes, tar, gun flint and ripe briar fruits. The palate is seamless and fine, loaded with fruit texture and tightly packed savoury tannins.
